MEET JACKI LYON
Jacki Lyon is a tutor, academic coach and creative writer who understands the power behind the written word that evokes change and leads to success. She was a writing professor at Xavier University for over fifteen years teaching technical and research writing as well as rhetorical and creative writing. Jacki is known for her ability to breakdown complex topics into teaching components with ease. Her teaching skills as well as her sense of humor and open character made her one of the most requested professors in Xavier's English Department during her tenure of teaching.
Her teaching techniques are grounded in understanding and responding to her student's needs and expectations in away that best serves them. She recognizes that people learn and assimilate information in different ways and at different paces. With this in mind, she is continuously assessing and adapting her teaching throughout the instruction process. Before the work begins, Jacki meets with her students to first identify their strengths and weaknesses in writing. Together, they develop narrow and measurable goals to make certain the instruction is successful. She combines her teaching skills, experience with young adults and empathic nature as an academic coach helping students navigate their academics while maintaining a healthy and balanced life.
Before her teaching career, Jacki was in the corporate world for over a decade. With a master’s degree in Health Planning and Administration, she was an Executive Director of a physicians’ organization in Cincinnati. The combination of her teaching and corporate experience has made Jacki a leader in both professional and academic settings.
As a creative writer, Jacki views writing as “a passionate journey seeking to uncover the internal and external factors that shape humanity.” Her first novel, The Marriage of Silence and Sin, delves into the darkest corners of human nature with courage and honesty. Salty Miss Tenderloin celebrates a young woman who pushes back on the darkness of humanity and discovers her true self.
In addition to writing and teaching, Jacki designs up-cycled fashion pieces specializing in bomber jackets. She enjoys rugged mountain hiking and distance biking as well as Earth, Wind & Fire and Jane Austen. Most of all, she enjoys travelling with her daughters, Grace and Margo.
